One of the biggest online marketing myths that I have ever heard of is
that all you need is a website and people will come flocking in droves
to give you their money. This could not be further from the truth, yet
new people are falling for it everyday.
First of all, search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing are in it for the money. They don’t just exist for the fun of it. They make money by selling advertisement and they sell advertisement by providing quality content. If you have one of those company replicated websites, you have to remember that thousands of others have the same site with the same information on it. So then, other than the contact information, what makes yours any different from all of the others? Nothing! Absolutely nothing. As a matter of fact, most search engines will not even add those pages to their index, so you will never be found that way.
To have any hope of getting indexed and therefore getting some type of organic search engine traffic, your website needs to be unique and it needs to have information that will be of value to others. Even with that, let’s not think that the traffic will come immediately.
Search engine optimization or SEO for short, is a full time job in itself. The process is long and tedious and it takes constant effort and tweaking. With time and patience though you can receive results that way.
